Barry Hoffner
Barry Hoffner, author of Belonging to the World, believes the best things in life often happen by chance. After earning his MBA from Columbia University, he worked in investment banking across the globe. A midcareer sabbatical transformed his path as he fell in love, traveled the world with his wife, Jackie, and eventually started a family. He left finance to farm wine grapes and olives and to build his life’s work: Caravan to Class, a foundation that brings access to education for youth in West Africa. Caravan to Class’s anchor program, Bourse Jackie scholarships for young women, is named in honor of his late wife. After losing Jackie in 2017, Barry devoted himself to this mission and to a new chapter of exploration. He has since traveled to every country in the world. He lives in Sausalito, California, and is the proud father of two adult sons, Benjamin and Daniel.
